Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? Here you can find answers to the questions we are most commonly asked.

Will I have a private room?

Yes, you will have a private room with an en-suite bathroom. You will not share your room with anyone else.

Can I bring a companion?

Yes, you can. Three meals a day in hospital and breakfast at the hotel are included for your companion, at no extra charge. Your hospital room has a chair bed for your companion to sleep on.

How long will my operation take?

The operation takes between 1.5 and 3 hours, depending on the procedure. A gastric sleeve usually takes 1.5 to 2 hours, and a gastric bypass 2 to 3 hours.

How much weight can I expect to lose?

The amount of weight lost after surgery varies from person to person, and depends largely on the changes you make to your lifestyle and eating habits. Most patients lose 60 to 80% of their excess weight within 12 to 18 months.

Is surgery right for me?

If your body mass index (BMI) is 30 or above and you are in good general health, you may be suitable for weight loss surgery in Turkey. Suitability is confirmed after your pre-operative tests and assessments.

If you do not know your BMI, you can use our BMI calculator.

What can I do about hair loss?

In the first months after surgery, some hair loss can occur due to rapid weight loss. It is temporary and usually settles after a few months. To keep it to a minimum, try to get enough protein, drink plenty of fluids and take your vitamin and mineral supplements regularly.

When can I return to work?

If you work in an office, you can usually return to work after 1 week, or even earlier if you feel well. Avoid heavy lifting for at least 2 weeks.

For physically demanding jobs, follow your surgeon’s advice on when to return.

Will my skin sag after losing weight?

Loose skin is common after significant weight loss. How much depends on factors such as the amount of weight lost, your age, genetics and skin quality, so it varies from person to person. A protein-rich diet and regular exercise help keep sagging to a minimum by reducing muscle loss.

For more noticeable sagging, plastic surgery is the most effective option. These procedures, known as body contouring, should only be considered once you reach your target weight, usually after 12 to 18 months.

What should I eat after surgery?

Your diet after weight loss surgery progresses in stages. You start with liquids, then move on to puree foods and soft foods. Your return to regular foods usually starts from week 7 onwards.

When can I drive?

You can usually start driving 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. This can be sooner if you feel well enough to perform an emergency stop comfortably.

How long will I stay in hospital?
